Gabriella and Josh got married at Wildflower on Watts, a stunning 17-acre white barn estate nestled in the rolling hills of the Pocono Mountains in Honesdale, Pennsylvania. The weekend began with a three-hour rehearsal dinner in an open field under twinkly lights, steak dinner, outdoor bar, big families from both sides, and speeches that had everyone laughing and crying in equal measure. The wedding day that followed was everything they'd envisioned: emotional, joyful, completely unscripted, and full of moments that nobody planned but everyone felt.
A few things that made this wedding uniquely special: Gabriella is a wedding photographer herself, which meant she came to her own day with a rare clarity about what she wanted and a deep trust in the process. She and I have also been close friends for over two years, talking every Tuesday without fail. That relationship changed everything about how this weekend was documented.

WHAT THEY NEEDED

Gabriella knew exactly what she didn't want. No stiff posing. No editorial look that traded authenticity for aesthetics. No timeline that felt like an all-day photoshoot. What she and Josh wanted in a Photographer was someone who already knew them, someone who could capture the way they actually are together: laughing hard, completely present with each other. They also came with a long list of people who mattered deeply to them. Gabriella wanted everyone seen, not just the wedding party.

To summarize, these were their number 1 needs:

Documentary, joy-centred photography without stiff or awkward posing
A timeline built around connection, not photo obligations
Full family coverage across both sides, including a beautiful candid of their grandparents
Someone who already knew weddings well enough to anticipate the moments before they happened

WHAT WE DID

Our planning conversations felt less like consultations and more like two photographers putting their heads together. We built a timeline that protected what mattered most and left room for the candid moments to take place. Here are a few of the decisions that shaped the day:

Moved the majority of speeches to the rehearsal dinner, keeping the reception light and celebratory
Completed all portraits, bridal party, and family photos before the ceremony so the cocktail hour was theirs to enjoy
Built in a first look with the groom's parents, not just the bride's side, so Josh's family had their own emotional moment
Let the couple's first look breathe for a full ten minutes with no direction or rushing
Arrived thirty minutes early to scout and shoot details on my own terms, including moving the flat lays to Gabriella's favourite yellow couch
Operated documentary-first throughout the entire day, staying wide during emotional moments to capture reactions as much as subjects

the result

A full weekend of images that tell the whole story, from the twinkly-light rehearsal dinner in the Pocono fields, to the letters Gabriella had been writing Josh since their very first date, to the private last dance they shared alone in the venue after every guest had gone home.

Gabriella's dad, too overwhelmed to turn around when she walked toward him for their first look.
The drone image of the entire rehearsal dinner table, field stretching out, barn glowing in the background.
Josh's face when he turned around and saw Gabriella for the first time.
An heirloom family photo of each side of the family (the Bride's mom with all her siblings and parents, the Groom's dad with all his family members - photos for the family members too, not just the couple).
Gabriella and her mom after she was surprised with a 'Mother Daughter' dance and the whole room in tears.
The private last dance, just the two of them.

"These moments... I mean, there are so many photos we never expected to get but are SO unbelievably happy we have, all thanks to your eye! The photos are legitimately perfect. I've been looking at them so much! WOW we love them so much! Josh keeps making fun of me because when I look through the photos I keep saying "no this one's my favourite. Wait no this one's my favourite" - they're all my favourites!
