Where the ocean meets the land. That’s what Madeline and Dillon wanted their wedding film to feel like, and it’s exactly what we found at the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino. As their Tofino wedding videographer and photographer team, we flew out from Victoria to tell their story, from a quiet first look in the forest to golden hour on the beach with their dog, Bear.

A personal, cinematic wedding film starts with understanding your story. The best wedding videography captures more than how your day looked. It brings together meaningful moments, natural interactions and personal vows. Paired with beautiful visuals, these details create a wedding film that feels like you. For Madeline and Dillon, that meant building the film around the beach where they said their vows.
From our very first call with Madeline and Dillon, they were clear about what they wanted their wedding video to feel like. Their first date was on a beach. They got engaged on a beach. And now, fittingly, they had chosen another beach to say their vows. Madeline described herself as water and Dillon as earth, and the beach as the place where the two meet. That idea became the heartbeat of their entire film.
They wanted romantic, sentimental storytelling, the kind of wedding film that gives you chills because it actually sounds like them. Vows playing softly behind sweeping visuals. Real moments between real people, not just posed shots. Plenty of drone footage capturing the ocean and the sand, since that imagery meant so much to their story. Throughout it all, Madeline kept coming back to one thing. She wanted to be fully present on her wedding day. When she watched the film later, she wanted to feel like she was living those moments all over again.
The day started slow and intentional, just like Madeline wanted, with quiet getting-ready moments, soft light and thoughtful details: the invitations, her dress hanging in the window and custom robes for her bridal party.
Filming the morning is one of our favourite parts of any wedding day, because it’s where so much of a couple’s personality comes through before things get busy. Madeline’s room was full of laughter, tarot cards, and real excitement from the people closest to her. Down the hall, Dillon was surrounded by three generations of father figures and friends who clearly adored him. Each room had its own energy, but the feeling was the same. Everywhere they turned, Madeline and Dillon felt the love of the people closest to them.

A first look can be a beautiful addition to your Vancouver Island wedding film. It gives you a private moment together before the ceremony. Your wedding videographer can capture real reactions, quiet conversations and the excitement of seeing each other for the first time. In Tofino, the rainforest trails around the Wickaninnish Inn give you a private spot away from guests.
Madeline and Dillon wanted their first look to happen privately in the forest, away from guests, away from any pressure to perform for a crowd. We set up quietly, mic’d Dillon, and let the moment unfold exactly as it would naturally.
It’s one of our favourite parts of any wedding film, that first real reaction. Dillon’s face when Madeline walked up behind him said everything. From there, we moved through the forest capturing the two of them simply being together, walking, laughing, talking quietly, with sunlight breaking through the trees behind them. This is where that cinematic, almost storybook quality they wanted really started to take shape on film.
The Wickaninnish Inn has so many incredible features, from getting-ready spaces to a variety of first look locations and their new venue space, Hemlock Hideaway. Here’s what it’s really like to get married at the Wickaninnish Inn.

Madeline and Dillon exchanged their vows on a private beach beside the Wickaninnish Inn. The setting was every bit as beautiful as they’d imagined. Our drone captured sweeping views of the shoreline and open ocean, with their closest loved ones gathered to celebrate.

Their ceremony included a meaningful twist on a sand ceremony: a stone was passed through their guests, each person holding it for a moment to silently offer their well wishes, before it was later placed into a jar of sand from the very beach where they got married. Bear, their dog, served as ring bearer for the occasion, adding his own perfect bit of comic relief to an otherwise deeply emotional moment.
We made sure to capture their vows in full, knowing how much it meant to Madeline and Dillon to hear their own words layered back over the visuals of their day. After their first kiss, they asked for ten private minutes alone on the beach before anyone else approached them. We held back and filmed candidly from a distance, giving them space to soak it all in. Overwhelmed with joy and disbelief, they kept repeating, “we’re married,” as though they still couldn’t quite believe it.

Golden hour is one of the most beautiful times for wedding photos and video in Tofino. During the hour before sunset, the softer light can create a romantic atmosphere along the beaches and coastline. In June, Tofino’s long summer evenings give couples more flexibility to step away for a short sunset session without missing too much of their celebration.
If there’s one sequence in this film that captures exactly what Madeline and Dillon asked for, it’s golden hour. Tofino sunsets in June stretch on forever, and this one did not disappoint. We had Madeline and Dillon back on the beach as the light turned gold, running, laughing, dancing together with the waves behind them and Bear joining in for a few frames too.
This is the kind of footage that doesn’t need much direction. We gave them space to move and just be. They were a married couple in love! We let the camera, and the drone, capture the rest. The result is some of the most beautiful golden hour footage we’ve ever captured in Tofino.

Madeline and Dillon’s reception entrance was filled with cheering, laughter and pure joy! Exactly the energy they wanted reflected in their film. Heartfelt speeches from family and friends followed, bringing both laughter and tears. We captured it all, knowing these raw, unscripted reactions often become the moments couples love watching again and again.

Their first dance took place at Hemlock Hideaway, the Wickaninnish Inn’s tented dance floor tucked into the trees. Madeline and Dillon had practiced a choreographed lift and dramatic dip, and they were so excited to pull it off on camera! A combined parent dance followed before the party truly began. Their closest friends and family filled the dance floor well into the night.

A cinematic wedding film goes beyond documenting the events of your wedding day. It uses storytelling, professional audio, thoughtful editing and carefully captured visuals to create an experience that feels like watching your own love story unfold. For our Vancouver Island wedding videography team, the goal is to create a film that brings back the emotions of your wedding day, not just the memories of what happened.
What made this film come together so well wasn’t just the stunning location, it was how clearly Madeline and Dillon knew what they wanted their story to feel like. Romantic. Sentimental. A little bit elegant, with just enough of the party energy mixed in to feel true to who they are. A film their grandchildren could watch one day and understand exactly who their best friends were, what their parents meant to them, and how deeply they love each other.
We’re so grateful Madeline and Dillon trusted our team to tell that story, and even more grateful they flew our whole Victoria-based crew out to Tofino to do it. This one will stay with us for a long time.
